I want to say a huge thank you to Getty Images for the programme that enables footage to be made available to independent film makers applying to Sheffield Doc/Fest - having access to this archive has made life for this independent documentary film maker much easier not least less stressful - both for making the trailer and in creating the structure of the full film and for fundraising - and I know of others who think the same.
It has genuinely helped me not only get to a locked structural edit quicker (by testing various bits of footage) - but also to produce a body of work that means non-film makers who are potential investors can see the final quality and do not have to make the sometimes difficult leap of trust around "the final film will look better" - I genuinely believe this Getty Images programme has helped me pre-sell my own licenses - that and it being a great investigative documentary that tells a side of history not previously reported.
As truly independent documentary film makers who want to tell difficult stories we have so many challenges - and as a result of offering this access, you have removed many of them and facilitated the break-down of others - e.g. funding access and content that we otherwise wouldn't have known about. In addition, I have had discussions with other film makers that this facility builds loyalty to your brand, as since receiving this access I find that I turn to Getty Images before any other.
I also believe this programme will help prevent those who may be of a mind to misuse other people's work to get the proper licenses … I am at the cusp of my first feature documentary being released, and I hope it's a success - but whatever happens - I just wanted to say a heartfelt thank you for this programme.
